Get Terrarium running.
Download the free Mac app or signed Windows preview. The terminal edition also runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. No account is needed for the local watch.
Desktop apps
Mac, Windows, and npm now share whole-file reading, commit-linked HTML snapshots, worktree navigation, and the local review watchlist. Desktop 0.0.24 also adds clearer startup progress and easier project switching. Windows 0.0.24 is available as a signed preview. See its validation status below.
Desktop 0.0.24 adds a project picker in the top-left menu and shows the current preparation step with elapsed time during startup. Choose a repository once; Terrarium reopens it next time.
Open the downloaded disk image and drag Terrarium to Applications. Open it, choose your repository folder, and start your agent in that repository. To change repositories, open the top-left menu and choose Switch Project…. Updating replaces the app and keeps your local recordings.
On Windows, run the downloaded installer, open Terrarium, and choose your repository. No separate Node installation is needed. Use Switch Project… in the top-left menu or system tray to change repositories. Terrarium reopens your last project when one is saved. - Automated Windows installation, launch, repository watch, and restart checks passed. Personal-PC testing of 0.0.23 confirmed launch and project switching. That first launch took about a minute; reopening was quick. Broader physical-PC checks are still pending for this release. SmartScreen may warn about an unrecognized app; the expected publisher is GRAINWORK LLC.
Install from the terminal
Watch a repository
npx --yes terrarium-watch@latest start .Terrarium keeps watching in the background and prints the exact stop command.
Requires Node 22.12 or newer. @latest selects the latest public npm release; --yes accepts npm's install question. The watch runs locally, and no Terrarium account is required.
Not sure which repository or watch Terrarium found? Run npx terrarium-watch@latest doctor . for a read-only local diagnosis.
Update Terrarium
npx --yes terrarium-watch@latest start .If a watch is already running, stop it with the exact stop command it printed, then run this command to start the latest release. Your recordings under ~/.terrarium stay where they are.
Prefer an installed command? Run npm install --global terrarium-watch@latest, then terrarium start .. Use the same install command to upgrade. A fresh npm install terrarium-watch also selects npm's latest release. In an existing project, plain npm installcan retain a locked version; use npm install terrarium-watch@latestto update that dependency explicitly.
